Singapore Silver Shorts 2019 includes two new commissions — Family Affairs by Chai Yee Wei and A Dream I Did Not Dream by K. Rajagopal — making their world premiere at the festival. Anthony Chen’s The Reunion Dinner, Wee Li Lin’s Interwoven and Sun Koh’s Singapore Panda will make up the total of five shorts in one screening. Approximate runtime of 71 mins.

Family Affairs (10 mins • Cantonese and Chinese with English and Chinese subtitles)
After finalising her divorce in China, Weixin travels back home to Singapore for Chinese New Year. When she brings home a traditional dish of new year rice cake, it transpires a slice of her family’s history — one that is awkward, but enlightening and resilient.

About the Director
Chai Yee Wei is an award-winning film director, writer and producer whose works include the popular feature That Girl in Pinafore (2013).

A Dream I Did Not Dream (10 mins • English with English and Chinese subtitles) 
The dance of life is one we dance alone but with many silent and invisible partners. Meena celebrates the lives she lived and the people she loves in a film about the rejuvenating power of time.

About the Director
K. Rajagopal is best known for his feature film A Yellow Bird which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2016. He has been involved in two omnibus film projects Lucky 7 (2008) and 7 Letters (2015).

The Reunion Dinner (15 mins • Chinese with English subtitles)
The Reunion Dinner depicts one Singaporean family’s celebration of Chinese New Year from the 1960s to present day. They may adapt their traditions to the country’s modernisation, but this does not change: celebrating with loved ones over a shared meal. Noor, an aspiring artist in her 50s, begins to doubt her creative ambitions when her daughter Nadia rejects a garment she has lovingly made for her. But when the fabric starts to inspire influential culture shapers, Noor’s confidence in her abilities grows.

Singapore Panda (20 mins • Chinese and Cantonese with English subtitles)
When a failing radio station is bought over by a Chinese multimedia conglomerate, long term employees Koh and Hua are forced to do whatever it takes to stay relevant in the fast changing world of radio broadcasting.

About the Director
Sun Koh is a Young Artist Award recipient and an award-winning filmmaker whose works are a diverse mix of formats, genres and styles.
